Recreational shrimping closes June 19
in Discovery Bay Shrimp District

Action: Recreational fishing for spot shrimp will close on June 19, 2004, in the Discovery Bay Shrimp District. Recreational fishing for other shrimp species in the district will also close that day, except as described under "other information" below.

Effective date: Saturday, June 19, 2004, at 3 p.m.

Species affected: All shrimp species.

Location: The Discovery Bay Shrimp District in Marine Area 6.

Reason for action: The recreational share of spot shrimp has been reached in the area closed under this rule.

Other information: The Discovery Bay Shrimp District south of a line from Contractors Point to Tukey Point will remain open on a daily basis for the harvest of all shrimp species except spot shrimp. The 7 a.m.-to-3 p.m. fishing rule that was in effect for the spot shrimp fishery will not be in effect, so that fishers can leave their gear in the water overnight. Fishers are reminded that pots can only be tended from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. It is unlawful to possess spot shrimp, which must be returned immediately to the water unharmed. See page 132 of the "2004-05 Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for rules and descriptions of spot, coonstripe, and pink shrimp.
