Recreational spot shrimp fishery closes in several marine areas

Action: Closes the last recreational spot shrimp fisheries.

Effective date: Sept.16, 2019.

Species affected: Spot shrimp and non-spot shrimp.

Location: Marine areas 4 (east of Bonilla-Tatoosh line), 5, and 6 (excluding the Discovery Bay Shrimp District)

Reason for action: To protect egg-bearing female spot shrimp consistent with co-management plans.

Additional information: With the closure of spot shrimp fisheries in these areas, non-spot shrimp fisheries will remain open through Oct.15, 2019. Pots with a minimum mesh size of 1/2 inch are now allowed in these areas.
