Recreational spot shrimp fishing
closing in eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca

Action: Recreational spot shrimp fishing is closing in the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca (Marine Area 6).

Effective dates: 9:00 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011.

Species affected: Spot shrimp.

Location: All waters of Marine Area 6, which is located in the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca, but excludes the Discovery Bay Shrimp District which is closed for the season.

Reason for action: The recreational spot shrimp quota in this area will be reached.

Other information: Marine Area 6 will remain open until Oct.15 for non-spot (coonstripe and pink) shrimp. Shrimp pots with a minimum mesh size of 1/2 inch will now be allowed. Please see pages 138 and 139 of the 2011/2012 "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for details on pot mesh size rules, and descriptions of the shrimp species. All spot shrimp caught must be immediately returned to the water.
