Recreational spot shrimp fishing closing in Marine Area 6

Action: Recreational spot shrimp fishing is closing in marine area 6.

Effective date: 9:00 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2010.

Species affected: Spot shrimp.

Location: All waters of Marine Area 6, which is located in the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Reason for action: The recreational spot shrimp quota in this area will be reached.

Other information: Marine Area 6 will remain open until October 15 for non-spot shrimp. Shrimp pots with a minimum mesh size of ½ inch will now be allowed. Please see pages 138 and 139 of the 2010/2011 “Fishing in Washington” rules pamphlet for details on pot mesh size rules, and descriptions of the shrimp species. All spot shrimp caught must be immediately returned to the water. The Discovery Bay Shrimp District is closed for the season.
