Salmon daily limit reduced for Quillayute system

September 9, 2024

Action: Reduces salmon daily limit to one fish.

Effective date: Sept. 10 through Dec. 15, 2024.

Species affected: Salmon.

Locations:

  • Bogachiel River (Clallam Co.), mouth to Hwy 101 Bridge:
  • Calawah River (Clallam Co.), mouth to Hwy 101 Bridge:
  • Dickey River (Clallam Co.), Olympic National Park Boundary upstream to confluence of Bogachiel and Sol Duc rivers:
  • Quillayute River (Clallam Co.), from Olympic National Park Boundary upstream to confluence of Bogachiel and Sol Duc rivers:
  • Sol Duc River (Clallam Co.), mouth to the concrete pump station at Sol Duc Hatchery.

Salmon rules: Minimum size is 12 inches. Daily limit is one. Release sockeye and wild coho.

Reason for action: A reduced daily limit is necessary to protect salmon returning to the Quillayute watershed. Low flows have resulted in coho and Chinook holding in the lower river and not moving upstream to spawning grounds. Returning salmon abundance will be monitored and regulations may be modified as additional information becomes available.

Additional information: Permanent regulations include only one single-point barbless hook allowed and internal combustion motors prohibited. Anglers can check the emergency rules webpage for updates, or sign up for the Fishing Rule Change alerts email list on the WDFW webpage. See the WDFW “The Salmon Fishing Current” blog for additional Puget Sound Chinook fishery information.

Information contact: Region 6 Montesano office, 360-249-4628.

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license, appropriate to the fishery. Check the WDFW "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for details on definitions and regulations.
