Salmon fisheries to reopen for many southwest Washington waters

July 30, 2019

Action: Restores daily harvest limits for salmon as published in the 2019-20 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet.

Effective date: Aug. 1, 2019 until further notice.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location:

Cowlitz River

Cowlitz Falls Reservoir (Lake Scanewa)

Cispus River

Kalama River: from the mouth to 1000 feet below the fishway at the upper salmon hatchery.

Klickitat River: from 400 feet upstream of #5 fishway to the boundary markers below Klickitat Salmon Hatchery.

Reason for action: Daily salmon limits were modified by emergency rule in these areas to manage spring Chinook returns and to help assure hatchery broodstock goals were achieved. The emergency rules adopted earlier in 2019 for these waters are no longer needed.

Additional information: Anglers are reminded to always consult the 2019-20 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet and the emergency rules at https://fortress.wa.gov/dfw/erules/erules/ before fishing.
