Salmon fishing closing in Sekiu and Pillar Point (Marine Area 5)

Action: Closes salmon fishing

Effective date: April 24 through April 30, 2023

Species affected: All salmon

Location: Sekiu and Pillar Point (Marine Area 5)

Reason for action: Data to date indicates this fishery has reached 90% of the Chinook salmon sublegal encounters (3,849 of 4,263) agreed to in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries. To meet conservation goals and avoid exceeding the fishery objectives, the fishery will close beginning Monday, April 24.

Additional Information: This rule change does not affect the scheduled halibut season in Sekiu and Pillar Point (Marine Area 5).
