Salmon Fishing in Marine Area 5 to Return to Seven Days per Week

July 21, 2022

Action: Returns MA-5 to permanent rules as described in the 2022-23 Sport Fishing Rules Pamphlet.

Effective date: July 25th, 2022.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: Marine Area 5.

Rule (through Aug. 15): Open seven (7) days per week. Chinook - min. size 22". Other salmon species - no min. size. Daily limit 2, including no more than1 hatchery Chinook. Release chum, wild coho, and wild Chinook.

Season may close earlier if Chinook guideline is attained.

Reason for action: The Marine Areas 5 Chinook fishery switched to even days only beginning July 5th, that time the fishery has reached 40% of the total legal encounters limit (7,342) agreed to in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries (LOAF).  Catch has slowed in MA-5 after high catch during the opening weekend, allowing for more days to be open.  The MA-5 Chinook Fishery is scheduled to switch to non-retention on Aug. 16th.
