Salmon fishing opens on the Entiat River

July 25, 2008

Action: Opens salmon fishing on the Entiat River (Chelan County).

Effective dates: Aug. 1 through Aug. 31, 2008.

Daily limit: Daily limit six summer Chinook salmon, minimum size 12 inches. Only two adults may be retained. Bull trout, coho and steelhead must be released unharmed.

Species affected: Summer Chinook. This stock is not included in the ESA listing in the Upper Columbia River ESU.

Location: Angling will be allowed from the Alternate Highway 97 Bridge near the mouth of the Entiat River, upstream to the posted sign marking the Entiat City limits.

Reason for action: To increase the area open to summer chinook angling in the Columbia River drainage. Summer Chinook salmon returning to the Entiat River are not listed under the ESA. The 2008 return ensures that natural spawning escapement needs are satisfied; no salmon are needed to meet hatchery broodstock objectives. The remaining fish will be available for harvest.

Other Information: Non-buoyant lure restriction and a night closure will be in effect. Handling Rules are also in effect for those fish released.
