Salmon season to close April 9 in Marine Area 6

Action: Closes Marine Area 6 (East Juan de Fuca Strait) to salmon fishing beginning April 9.


Effective date: April 9, 2018.

Species affected: Salmon

Location: Marine Area 6 within Puget Sound.

Reason for action: Fishery projections, based on dockside sampling, indicate that Marine Area 6 will exceed the allowable limit of total chinook encounters - including both retained and released fish - prior to the planned April 15 closure date. The fishery is being closed to control impacts on stocks of concern and ensure compliance with conservation objectives.
