San Juan Islands (Marine Area 7) to open for additional days of salmon fishing

Action: Opens salmon seasons.

Effective date: July 28 through July 30, 2022.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: Marine Area 7.

Rule: Open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday only. Salmon daily limit 2, including no more than 1 Chinook. Chinook min. size 22”. Other salmon, no min. size. Release wild Chinook, wild coho, and chum.

Reason for action: Catch estimates for the Marine Area 7 summer Chinook fishery indicate that through July 23, 2022, 67% of the harvest quota (1,203 of 1800), 25% of unmarked encounters (988 of 3,991) and 23% of sublegal encounters (593 of 2,573) have been reached. This allows space for additional days of fishing to be added to the 2022 summer Chinook season.
