Shrimping day added June 9 in Marine Areas 9 and 11; Marine Area 13 opens for non-spot shrimp June 1

Action: Recreational shrimp seasons will open for 4 hours on June 9 for all shrimp including spot shrimp in Marine Area 9 (Edmonds, Port Townsend Bay, Admiralty Inlet) and Marine Area 11 (Tacoma-Vashon Island). Beginning immediately, Marine Area 13 (South Puget Sound, Carr Inlet) is open for non-spot shrimp harvest only.

Effective dates and times by area:

Marine Area 9: Open June 9, from 8 a.m. through 12 p.m. (noon), for all shrimp species.

Marine Area 11: Open June 9, from 8 a.m. through 12 p.m. (noon), for all shrimp species.

Marine Area 13: Open daily beginning immediately, for all species except spot shrimp. It is unlawful to set or pull shrimp gear in waters greater than 200 feet deep. All spot shrimp captured must be immediately released.

Species affected: All shrimp species which include spot shrimp, coonstripe shrimp, dock shrimp, pink shrimp, and sidestripe shrimp.

Locations: Marine Areas 9, 11, and 13.

Reason for action: To harvest recreational spot shrimp in Marine Areas 9 and 11 consistent with state/tribal management agreements. To harvest recreational non-spot shrimp in Marine Area 13.

Additional information: The daily limit is 10 lbs. of all shrimp species, with a maximum of 80 spot shrimp (if spot shrimp harvest is open). If retaining only spot shrimp, heads may be removed and discarded immediately in the field. Daylight hours only indicates that pots can be set and retrieved from 1 hour before official sunrise to 1 hour after official sunset. All traps must be removed from the water during periods when fishing is closed.
