Snake River spring chinook fishery to close early

May 9, 2008

Action / Species affected: The Snake River below Ice Harbor Dam, and the area between Texas Rapids and about one mile upstream of Little Goose Dam, will close for spring/summer chinook fishing after Sunday May 11.

Locations: Two areas: A) From the Railroad Bridge crossing the Snake River just above the mouth upstream to the no fishing zone about 400 ft below Ice Harbor Dam; and B) From Texas Rapids Boat Launch upstream about 7 miles to the boat launch approximately 1 mile upstream of Little Goose Dam (along the south shore).

Effective Date: May 12, 2008 until further notice

Reason for action: The upriver run size has been downgraded to 180,000 fish, compared to the preseason forecast of 269,300. The non-Indian impact on Endangered Species Act (ESA) spring Chinook is projected to be reached at the lower run size.

Other Information: The upriver run size will continue to be monitored on a daily basis.
