Snake River Spring Chinook Sport Fishery
Closed in Two Areas
Action: The Snake River will close to spring chinook angling in two areas downstream of Lewiston/Clarkston.
Effective date: 12:01 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004.
Species affected: Chinook salmon.
Location: Area 1: From Texas Rapids boat launch upstream to the Corps Of Engineers boat launch approximately 1 mile upstream of Little Goose Dam on the south bank of the river.
Area 2: From the mouth of Wawawai Creek (about 3 miles upstream of Lower Granite Dam) to Red Wolf Bridge in Clarkston..
Reason for action:. The run size forecast for Columbia upriver spring chinook has been downgraded to 200,000 fish, compared to the preseason forecast of 360,700 fish. Non-Indian recreational fishing impacts to listed upriver spring chinook have been achieved based on the current run size forecast of 200,000. Upriver chinook passage at Bonneville Dam has not met pre-season management expectations
Other information: Spring chinook fishing remains open in the area from the Southway Bridge crossing the Snake River at Lewiston/Clarkston upstream to the Heller Bar concrete boat ramp below the confluence of the Grande Ronde River. Fishing in this area is open seven days per week, with a daily limit of two hatchery chinook (adipose fin-clipped with a healed scar), with a minimum size of 12 inches. Anglers must use barbless hooks during this fishery, with a hook size not to exceed 5/8 inch (point of hook to shank). A night fishing closure remains in effect. This fishery is open in conjunction with the State of Idaho and under separate ESA impacts set aside for this fishery
