South Pond at Bogachiel Hatchery to open for trout fishing

April 17, 2017

Action: Open the South Pond at Bogachiel Hatchery to trout fishing on April 22 at 6 a.m. The pond will be stocked with catchable rainbow trout prior to the opener to augment trout still in the pond from last season. The pond will be open seven days per week, the daily limit will be the statewide standard of five trout. Other statewide trout regulations apply.

Effective date: April 22 through Aug. 20, 2017.

Species affected: Hatchery rainbow trout.

Location: South Pond at Bogachiel Hatchery.

Reason for action: Because of recent restrictions to general public access to Wentworth Lake, hatchery trout normally planted into Wentworth Lake are being planted in the South Pond at Bogachiel Hatchery. Fish managers included this fishery in the traditional trout opener this year due to the popularity of the fishery in 2016.
