South Puget Sound (Marine Area 13) salmon seasons reopen

August 31, 2022

Action: Salmon seasons reopen under permanent rules as listed in the 2022-23 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet.

Effective date: Immediately.

Species affected:  Salmon.

Location: Marine Area 13 (South Puget Sound).

Reason for action: Chinook salmon returns to the Nisqually river were below pre-season expectation through last Friday, when WDFW paused recreational salmon fishing. After discussions with co-managers and evaluating current information, WDFW is comfortable that management objectives will not be compromised by reopening recreational salmon fishing.

Additional information: For season listings see the 2022-23 Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet at https://www.eregulations.com/washington/fishing/.

Anglers can be notified of any in-season rules changes as they are announced by signing up for WDFW Regulation Updates at wdfw.wa.gov/about/lists.

Information contact: Fish Program, 360-902-2700.

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license, appropriate to the fishery. Check the WDFW "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for details on definitions and regulations. Fishing rules are subject to change. Visit wdfw.wa.gov/fishing-hotlines to find a list of mobile, web, print, or customer service phone options for the latest rule information.
