Sport clam and oyster season delayed at South Indian Island County Park

Action: The sport clam and oyster fishing season at South Indian Island County Park will open on May 15, 2012.

Effective date: May 15, 2012 through Aug. 31, 2012.

Species affected: All clams and oysters.

Location: South Indian Island County Park. This beach is located in Jefferson County on Admiralty Inlet.

Reason for action: Surveys indicate that the clam population has decreased, requiring that the season be shortened by two weeks in 2012. Delaying the season opener and extending the closing date allows more continuous opportunity for harvesters on nearby Admiralty Inlet public beaches (Fort Flagler State Park and Oak Bay County Park). The oyster season on this beach coincides with the clam season.
