Sport clam season closed at West Dewatto (DNR 44-A)

February 6, 2004

Action: The 2004 sport clam season at West Dewatto (DNR 44-A), originally planned for January 1 to May 31, has been closed for the entire year.

Effective date: January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004.

Species affected: All clams, except razor clams.

Location: West Dewatto (DNR 44-A).

Reason for action: The 2004 clam season at West Dewatto (DNR 44-A) has been closed due to a significant decrease in the population of legal-sized littleneck clams surveyed last summer. In addition, the sport quota of clams was exceeded in 2003, further reducing the 2004 sport share on this beach. A closed clam season is necessary to avoid over harvest of the 2004 sport clam share. The oyster season at West Dewatto remains open year-round.
