Sport clam season closed
at West Dewatto (DNR 44-A)

Action: The 2007 sport clam season at West Dewatto (DNR 44-A), originally planned for January 1 to May 31, has been closed for the entire year.

Effective date: Effective immediately until further notice.

Species affected: All clams, except razor clams.

Location: West Dewatto (DNR 44-A), in Mason County.

Reason for action: The 2007 clam season at West Dewatto (DNR 44-A) has been closed due to a significant decrease in the population of legal-sized littleneck clams surveyed last summer. In addition, the sport quota of clams was exceeded in 2006, further reducing the 2007 sport share on this beach. A closed clam season is necessary to avoid over harvest of the 2007 sport clam share, and to protect hatchery clam seed recently planted on the beach. The oyster season at West Dewatto remains open year-round.
