Sport clam season delayed at Dosewallips State Park

March 17, 2006

Action: The sport clam fishing season at Dosewallips State Park is delayed but will open May 15, 2006 through July 31, 2006.

Effective date: April 1, 2006

Species affected: All clams except razor clams.

Location: Dosewallips State Park, located in Jefferson County on the west side of Hood Canal.

Reason for action: Under current regulations, sport clam season at Dosewallips State Park was set to open April 1st. Surveys show, however, that sport shellfishing effort at Dosewallips continues to increase, and the clam population can only support a shorter sport season. The modified season continues to allow the sport harvest during the Fourth of July weekend.
