Sport clam season modified at Eagle Creek

December 31, 2002

Actions: The 2003 sport clam season at Eagle Creek, originally planned for January 1 to May 31 has been changed to June 1 to July 15.

Effective date: June 1, 2003 to July 15, 2003.

Species affected: All clams, except razor clams.

Location: Eagle Creek.

Reason for action: Surveys on this beach indicate a 65% reduction in the population of legal-sized clams compared to the previous year, most likely the result of last spring's "winter kill" due to freezing temperatures. The remaining clams will only support a shortened season. Shifting the season to peak summer months allows for better regional harvest opportunities.
