Sport clam season modified at Point Whitney Tidelands and Lagoon

February 26, 2004

Action: The 2004 sport clam fishing season at Point Whitney Tidelands is shifted a month earlier, opening March 1, 2004 through March 31, 2004. The sport clam fishing season at Point Whitney Lagoon is extended two weeks, opening April 1, 2004 through May 31, 2004.

Effective date: March 1, 2004 through May 31, 2004.

Species affected: All clams, except razor clams.

Location: Point Whitney Tidelands (excluding Point Whitney Lagoon) and Point Whitney Lagoon.

Reason for action: At Point Whitney Lagoon, surveys indicate an increase in the clam population, allowing for an extended season. At Point Whitney Tidelands, the season has been shifted one month earlier to provide a more continuous string of sport harvest opportunities at local public beaches.
