Sport Clam season modified at Point Whitney Tidelands and Point Whitney Lagoon

Action: The sport clam fishing season at Point Whitney Tidelands (excluding Point Whitney Lagoon) is extended through July 31, 2006, effective immediately. The sport clam fishing season at Point Whitney Lagoon is delayed but will open August 1, 2006 through August 31, 2006.

Effective date: Effective immediately until further notice.

Species affected: All clams except razor clams.

Location: Point Whitney Tidelands and Lagoon, located in Jefferson County.

Reason for action: Surveys show that the clam population at Point Whitney Tideldands has increased, in part due to successful artificial enhancement efforts, and a longer sport clam season is justified. The delayed season opening at nearby Point Whitney Lagoon continues the trend of having the Lagoon open immediately after the Tidelands close, and continues the month-long season.
