Sport clam season modified at
Port Townsend Ship Canal/Portage Canal

Action: The 2003 sport clam fishing season on Port Townsend Ship Canal/Portage Canal, originally scheduled for Jan. 1 to March 31, has been changed to Jan. 1 to April 30.

Effective Date: Immediately through April 30.

Species affected: All clams, except for razor clams.

Location: Port Townsend Ship Canal/Portage Canal.

Reason for action: The 2003 clam quota on Port Townsend Ship Canal/Portage Canal has been increased due to a significant increase in the population of legal-sized littleneck clams surveyed last spring. The increased sport clam quota allows an extended season in 2003. This regulation change was approved by the Fish & Wildlife Commission at its February 2003 meeting.
