Sport clam season modified at Potlatch State Park,
Potlatch DNR Tidelands and Potlatch East

Action: The 2003 sport clam fishing season on Potlatch State Park, Potlatch DNR Tidelands and Potlatch East, originally scheduled for April 1 to July 15, has been closed for the entire year.

Effective Date: Immediately through December 31.

Species affected: All clams, except for razor clams.

Location: Potlatch State Park, Potlatch DNR Tidelands and Potlatch East.

Reason for action: The 2003 clam quota on Potlatch State Park, Potlatch DNR Tidelands, and Potlatch East has been reduced due to a significant decrease in the population of legal-sized littleneck clams surveyed last spring. In addition, the sport quota of clams was exceeded in 2002 at Potlatch State Park, further reducing the 2003 sport share on this beach. A closed season is necessary to avoid over harvest of the 2003 sport share. This regulation change was approved by the Fish & Wildlife Commission at its February 2003 meeting.
