Sport clam season shortened at Point Whitney Tidelands

Action: The sport clam fishing season will open on March 15, 2013.

Effective date: Point Whitney Tidelands (excluding Point Whitney Lagoon): Open March 15 through March 31, 2013.

Species affected: All clams.

Location: Point Whitney Tidelands (excluding Point Whitney Lagoon). This beach is located in Jefferson County near Brinnon.

Reason for action: Surveys indicate that the clam population on this beach has decreased, requiring WDFW to shorten the season by two weeks in 2013. Oyster season will remain open on this beach from Jan. 1 through June 30, 2013.
