Sport halibut season closes the evening
of Aug. 12 in Marine Area 1

Action: Close recreational fishing for halibut in Marine Area 1 at the end of the day on Aug. 12, 2007. It is expected that the remaining quota in Marine Area 1 will be taken during the August 10-12 weekend fishery. It is unlawful to retain bottomfish, except sablefish and Pacific cod, when halibut is on board through Sept. 30, 2007.

Effective date: Close 11:59 p.m. Sunday Aug. 12, 2007.

Species affected: Pacific halibut.

Location: Marine Area 1.

Reason for action: It is expected that the remaining halibut quota for Marine Area 1 will be taken through Aug. 12, 2007. This rule conforms to federal action taken by the Pacific Fishery Management Council. If sufficient quota remains, the fishery may reopen for another fishing day. Anglers are encouraged to check the WDFW website or hotline for information regarding re-openings.
