Sport oyster season opened at Cushman Park

February 20, 2007

Action: The sport oyster fishing season at Cushman Park is opened March 1, 2007 until further notice.

Effective date: March 1, 2007 until further notice.

Species affected: Oysters.

Location: Cushman Park, located in Mason County on the west side of Hood Canal.

Reason for action: Last years oyster season ran only one month. Recent surveys indicate that the oyster population will support an extended season. Also, WDFW has negotiated with the Skokomish Tribe for a portion of their oyster share, allowing an extension through December 31, 2007. This extended season was approved by the Fish & Wildlife Commission at their February 3 meeting.

Information contact: Alex Bradbury, WDFW Point Whitney Shellfish Laboratory, (360) 586-1498, ext. 208.

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license, appropriate to the fishery. Check the WDFW "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for details on definitions and regulations.
