Spring chinook daily limit increased
on Wind River beginning May 23
Action: Up to four spring chinook may be retained as part of the daily limit on the Wind River.
Effective Date: May 23 through June 30, 2003.
Species affected: Chinook salmon.
Location: Wind River from the mouth (boundary line/markers) upstream to 800 yards downstream of Carson National Fish Hatchery.
Reason for action: Spring chinook returns to Carson National Fish Hatchery have been strong. To date, 446 fish have returned and the hatchery escapement goal of 1,200 fish is expected to be met.
Other information: The daily limit is four salmon or hatchery steelhead, of which no more than two may be hatchery steelhead. Salmon minimum size is 12 inches; hatchery steelhead minimum size 20 inches. Wild steelhead must be immediately released unharmed. Chinook, with or without an adipose fin intact, may be retained. Night closures and non- buoyant lure restrictions are in effect. The river from 400 feet below to 100 feet above Shipherd Falls and the Coffer Dam remain closed to all fishing.
