May 10, 2004
Action: Open salmon fishing in Icicle River from 400 feet upstream of mouth to 500 feet downstream of the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery Rack.
Effective date: 12:01 a.m. May 15, 2004 through one hour after sunset July 31, 2004.
Species affected: Spring chinook
Location: Icicle River, Chelan County
Reason for action: In-season run analyses predict that 10,000 salmon are currently in route to the Icicle River. Although upper Columbia spring chinook have been listed as "endangered" under the Endangered Species Act, the salmon returning to the Icicle River are Carson River stock fish that are not listed as endangered. About 1,000 -1,200 salmon are needed to meet hatchery broodstock needs. The quantity of salmon returning in 2004 ensures that the hatchery will meet their escapement needs; the remaining fish will be available for harvest.
Other information: The daily catch limit is two salmon, with a minimum size of 12 inches. Night closure and non-buoyant lure restrictions in effect.
