Action: Allows an additional day of retention fishing for white sturgeon in the Columbia River estuary. White Sturgeon from 44-inches minimum to 50-inches maximum fork length may be retained.
Effective date: Saturday, June 9, 2018. Sturgeon angling, including catch and release, closes at 2 p.m.
Under permanent rules, it is unlawful to fish for or possess sturgeon from freshwater prior to one hour before official sunrise.
Species affected: White Sturgeon
Location: The Columbia River from the Wauna powerlines to the mouth at Buoy 10, including Youngs Bay and all adjacent Washington tributaries.
Reason for action: There are fish remaining on the quota, allowing for an additional day of retention fishing.
Additional information: Catch-and-release fishing for sturgeon will continue to be allowed on all non-retention days.
Under permanent rules, you may not fish for or harvest fish in an area with catch in your possession that does not meet the rules of that area. However, you may pass through such an area without stopping to fish. Also, you may catch fish in one area and land them at a port in a different area even if that different area is closed or has different rules.
