Summer salmon season winding down in Puget Sound marine areas

Action: State fish managers are reminding anglers that the summer salmon fishing season ends Sept. 23 in Marine Area 8-2 and Sept. 30 in many other marine areas.

Species affected: Salmon.

Effective date and locations:

Marine Area 8-2 (Port Susan and Port Gardner): Closes at the end of the day Sept. 23.

Marine areas 5 (Sekiu), 6 (East Juan de Fuca Strait), 7 (San Juan Islands), 8-1 (Deception Pass, Hope Island, Skagit Bay), and 9 (Admiralty Inlet): Close at the end of the day Sept. 30.

Marine areas 10-13: Remain open for salmon fishing.

Reason for action: There is no change to the current rules. This is a reminder of scheduled closures.

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license, appropriate to the fishery. Check the WDFW "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for details on definitions and regulations.
