Tilton River closed-waters area to be reduced to 100 feet
Action: Reduces the closed-waters area on the Tilton River fish release site at Gust Backstrom Park to approximately 100 feet at posted signs.
Effective dates: October 17, 2018 until further notice.
Species affected: All fish species.
Locations: Tilton River fish release site at Gust Backstrom Park.
Reason for action: The closed-water area around the fish release site in Gust Backstrom Park was expanded to approximately 300 feet in early September to allow for released salmon to distribute during very low river flow conditions. This action helped to reduce the impact of angling on wild chinook salmon released at this site. Tilton River flow has now increased to a level that allows the closed area to be reduced. This action will increase fishing opportunity on hatchery salmon released at the site.
Additional information: Chinook and coho salmon are currently being released by Tacoma Power on the Tilton River as part of the salmon reintroduction program. Only hatchery coho or hatchery chinook may be retained by anglers. All other permanent rules remain in effect. Please refer to the Sport Fishing Pamphlet for complete rule information.
