Touchet River steelhead fishing rule update

January 3, 2022

Action: Closes fishing for and retention of steelhead.

Effective date: Jan. 4 through Apr. 15, 2022

Species affected: Steelhead.

Location: Touchet River from the mouth to the confluence of the North and South Forks.

Reason for action: The 2021 Columbia River forecasted return for upriver steelhead was 89,200. These measures are consistent with the discussions and actions taken from North of Falcon pre-season season setting process due to a low forecast. Steelhead passage at Bonneville Dam remains the lowest count on record. Predictions of natural origin steelhead returning to the Touchet River are low. With concerns for broodstock needs and impacts to wild fish it is important to close this fishery to protect steelhead returns.

Additional information: WDFW will continue to monitor steelhead returns and may update rules as additional information becomes available. Anglers are reminded to refer to the 2021-22 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for other regulations, including possession limits, safety closures, etc.

Information contact: Jeremy Trump, District 3 Fish Biologist, 509-382-1005.

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license, appropriate to the fishery. Check the WDFW "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for details on definitions and regulations.
