September 20, 2019
Action: Anglers may retain up to 1 adult hatchery Chinook as part of the adult portion of the salmon daily limit.
Effective dates: Sept. 21, 2019 through Nov. 30, 2019
Species affected: Chinook salmon.
Locations: Toutle and North Fork Toutle rivers from the mouth of the Toutle River to the posted markers downstream of the fish collection facility.
Reason for action: Fall Chinook salmon harvest was closed on the Toutle River, North Fork Toutle, and Green rivers in 2019 due to expectations that numbers of Chinook salmon returning to these areas would not be enough to meet North Toutle Hatchery broodstock goals. Current projections based on returns to the hatchery indicate there will be enough Chinook salmon to meet hatchery broodstock goals and also allow for harvest opportunity in these areas.
Additional information: Salmon daily limit is 6 fish, up to 4 adults may be retained, of which up to one may be a Chinook. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook and hatchery coho.
WDFW will continue to monitor the run to determine if further regulation changes are needed. All other permanent rules remain in effect. Please refer to the Sport Fishing Pamphlet for complete rule information.
Anglers are reminded to always check for emergency rule changes prior to fishing. Rule changes can be found on the website at https://fortress.wa.gov/dfw/erules/efishrules/ or by calling the fishing hotline at 360-902-2500.
