White Salmon River to close to fishing

October 24, 2011

Action: White Salmon River (including Northwestern Reservoir) will close to sport fishing.

Species affected: All species.

Effective dates: Oct. 25, 2011 until further notice.

Location: White Salmon River including Northwestern Reservoir

Other information: Closure will begin one hour after official sunset on Oct. 25.

Reason for action: Condit Dam on the White Salmon River will be breached on Wednesday, October 26. This will result in a large input of water and sediment into the lower river. It will also result in unstable and potentially unsafe river and bank conditions this winter. Conditions will be monitored and when they stabilize, seasons mainly targeting returning hatchery winter run steelhead are expected to resume.
