Actions: Closes Willapa Bay to recreational crab harvest
Effective date: Immediately
Species affected: All species of crab
Location: Willapa Bay
Reason for action: This action is necessary to insure public health. Department of Health samples show that levels of domoic acid in crab viscera have exceeded the action level of 30 parts per million.
Other information: This parallels a Willapa Bay closure for commercial crab harvest. All coastal areas have been, and will continue to be, tested for domoic acid. Crab from other coastal areas is safe for consumption. Crab harvested prior to the closure should be cleaned before cooking.
