Willapa Bay tributaries will close to all fishing

May 4, 2020

Action: Close all fishing until the Saturday before Memorial Day.

Effective date: March 2 through May 22, 2020.

Species affected: All species.

Location: Willapa Bay tributaries, including: Willapa River; Forks Creek; Palix River and all forks; Nemah River North, South, and Middle; Naselle River and Bear River.

Reason for action: The expected return of wild steelhead in these waters is projected to be below escapement goals. Concerns of meeting escapement goals have elevated due to increased pressure as anglers shift from the Chehalis Basin to other open waters. All waters within the Chehalis Basin closed to fishing February 17, 2020.

Additional information: Anglers are reminded to always check for emergency rule changes prior to fishing. Rule changes can be found online at https://fortress.wa.gov/dfw/erules/efishrules/ or by calling the fishing hotline at 360-902-2500.
