Wind River salmon and steelhead fisheries return to permanent rules

June 5, 2025

Action: Restores the salmon and steelhead angling rules for the Wind River to permanent rules listed in the Washington Sport Fishing Rules. All other permanent rules remain in effect.

Effective date: Immediately

Species affected: Salmon and steelhead

Location: Wind River, from the mouth to 800 yards downstream of Carson National Fish Hatchery. The mouth of the Wind River is defined by the buoy line markers south of the Highway 14 bridge.

Reason for action: The Wind River adult salmon daily limit was reduced earlier in the year to help ensure the spring Chinook broodstock collection goal for Carson National Fish Hatchery was achieved. Hatchery managers have indicated that sufficient broodstock has been collected to cover all hatchery programs. A reduced daily limit is no longer needed.

Additional information: Fishery managers encourage anglers to sign up for Fishing Rule Change email notifications and to check for emergency rules on the WDFW website prior to fishing. Refer to the 2024-25 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for additional fishing rules.
