Yakima River spring chinook fishery to close

Action: Closes the upper section of the Yakima River to fishing for hatchery spring chinook salmon.

Effective date: June 30, 2018.

Species affected: Spring chinook salmon.

Location: From the Interstate 82 bridge at Union Gap (river mile 107.1) to the BNSF railroad bridge approximately 600 feet downstream of Roza Dam (river mile 127.8).

Reason for action: Spring chinook daily counts at Prosser and Roza have declined substantially, signaling the end of the 2018 return to the Yakima River. Salmon fishing will remain open through Friday, June 29.

Additional information: This rule change will close all areas of the Yakima River to fishing for spring chinook. The lower section of the Yakima River was closed on June 18.
