Non-hunting chronic wasting disease (CWD) information

Feeding ban

On March 24, 2025, the WDFW director approved a rule prohibiting feeding deer, elk, and moose in Washington, as feeding draws animals together where they can spread disease. The rule goes into effect 31 days after filing. You can read the full text of this rule on WDFW’s rule making webpage.

Salvaging road-killed wildlife

If you salvage road-killed animals, you are required to have deer and elk salvaged in eastern WDFW Region 1 (100 series GMUs) sampled for CWD testing. Instructions on how to submit a sample and properly dispose of carcass parts can be found in the Testing for Chronic Wasting Disease section of this website.

Reporting sick or dead wildlife

If you see sick or dead animals, please report them to your regional WDFW office or use the online reporting form.
