Stan Coffin Lake

Stan Coffin Lake is located in WDFW's Quincy Wildlife Area. It is the northern-most lake along the main access road. This lake is a very good warmwater fishery for Largemouth Bass, Bluegill Sunfish, and Channel Catfish. Larger bass and Walleye style fishing boats can be launched at Stan Coffin. However, anglers should know that during the summertime Stan Coffin Lake is mostly unfishable due to excessive aquatic vegetation growth and decreased water levels. Several hundred Largemouth Bass in Stan Coffin Lake have Floy tags implanted along their dorsal fin. These tags are used to monitor growth of bass. If you catch a marked fish please leave the tag in the fish. In addition, several black barrels were placed in Stan Coffin Lake in order to serve as spawning sites for Channel Catfish. If you see a barrel please do not move it as there may be a Channel Catfish inside. Anglers should also know that access to Stan Coffin Lake is through the north gate only. The south gate is closed indefinitely due to vandalish problems. Both gates close the end of September so fishing in the fall is walk-in only.

Two-pole fishing is allowed

Shoreline access: Good - There is a fair amount of shoreline fishing. Most is located at the boat ramp area and long the access road.

Largemouth bass

Fishing improves throughout the spring as waters warm and fish move onshore, peaking during the spawn. Summer is a slight lull though dawn/dusk hours can be very good. Catch improves in Fall as waters cool, vegetation begins to die back, and prey becomes more available. Winter is the hardest time because fish are offshore and slow moving.

Bluegill

Bluegill can be caught year-round, but fishing is best in the warm months of Summer. Fishing improves throughout the spring, peaking during the spawn in early-Summer. Fish move offshore into deeper waters through the fall as water temperatures cool making it more difficult to target them. Winter is the most difficult season in which to catch Bluegill, but persistent anglers can find them in schools of like-sized fish offshore.

Channel catfish

Fishing improves throughout the spring, peaking before the spawning period in June and July. Fishing may pick up in early Fall, followed by a decrease in action as waters cool. Winter is a difficult time to target this species.
