Skagit River sockeye fishery extension

July 11, 2024

Action: Extends Skagit River sockeye season fishery.

Effective date: July 16 through July 24, 2024.

Species affected: Sockeye salmon.

Location: Skagit River from Highway 536 Bridge (Memorial Highway Bridge) in Mt. Vernon to the Dalles Bridge at Concrete.

Rules: Salmon minimum size is 12 inches. Daily limit is four sockeye. Release all salmon other than sockeye. Night closure in effect. Selective gear rules are not in effect for salmon.

Reason for action: Current data indicates that minimal incidental Chinook encounters and available harvestable sockeye in the area are sufficient to provide an extension of the in-river sockeye season.

Additional information: In-season closures and other management actions will be announced as soon as possible. Consider downloading the free FishWA app from the Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store, and signing up for fishery change notifications by email.
