Square

This hike starts at the Icicle Creek Trailhead out of Leavenworth.  Follow the Icicle Creek trail south to the Prospect Creek trail and wander up the lonesome valley.   Ascend the ridge, up to Wolverine Lake and go beyond to Square Lake.  Square lake has good fishing for naturally reproducing Westslope Cutthroat Trout.

From milepost 99 on US 2, on the western edge of Leavenworth, follow the paved Icicle Creek Road for about 20 miles. (Stay left on 7600 after passing Icicle Gorge Trailhead at about 16 miles up Icicle Creek Road.)The trailhead is located 20 miles up the Icicle Creek Road #7600.

Rainbow trout

Fishing success for Rainbow Trout is generally best in the spring when thousands of fish are stocked statewide, but they can be caught year-round in most waters with a little patience and persistence. Success remains high into June and gradually declines as water temperatures increase and fish move offshore to stay cool. Fish that escaped the spring harvest return to the nearshore areas in the fall as waters cool off. Some waters may also be stocked again in the fall further boosting catch rates.
