Rat Lake

Located five miles north of Brewster off Paradise Hill Road.  Rat Lake regulations were changed in 2018 to a year round fishery with a limit of two trout over 14 inches.  Expect rainbow trout in the 11-15 inch range, along with brown trout to 16 inches.  There is a WDFW access area with concrete boat launch site.  A lake rehabilitation project was performed in 2015 to remove illegally planted bullhead that had overtaken the lake and competed with the trout for nutrients.  Since that time, the trout fishery has performed extremely well.

Fishing prospects calendar

Rainbow trout

Fishing success for Rainbow Trout is generally best in the spring when thousands of fish are stocked statewide, but they can be caught year-round in most waters with a little patience and persistence. Success remains high into June and gradually declines as water temperatures increase and fish move offshore to stay cool. Fish that escaped the spring harvest return to the nearshore areas in the fall as waters cool off. Some waters may also be stocked again in the fall further boosting catch rates.
