High school students are introduced to the various diseases and zoonoses that the wildlife and people of Washington experience. Students explore turtle shell disease in endangered Western pond turtles. In the next part of the lesson, students learn how to model disease transmission using a disease ecology lesson from Purdue University. Finally, students work in groups to research and present on one wildlife disease in Washington, how it is transmitted, and what impacts the disease has on ecosystem services.
