Summary of proposed rule
The rule proposal regulates the 2024 fall commercial salmon gillnet fisheries in Willapa Bay and Grays Harbor and is part of a comprehensive rulemaking package. Specific rule changes include setting areas, dates, times, and minimum gillnet mesh size for 2024 coastal commercial salmon harvest.
Scope and rationale for proposed rule
WDFW proposes to amend current coastal commercial salmon fishing rules in chapter 220-354 WAC based on stakeholder recommendations developed during the 2024 North of Falcon season setting process. Through this process, fishing rules change from year to year to reflect resource availability and to achieve conservation goals. The rule proposal ensures that conservation requirements and management objectives in federal and state laws and regulations, state/tribal harvest management agreements, and Fish and Wildlife Commission policies are met.
